Scribe (in Biblical times)

A British Sign Language (BSL) translation of Scribe. Scribes were experts on religious law and state law. They held a high position in the leadership of daily life of the Jewish people. Every village would have had at least one scribe (who could draft legal documents (eg for the sale of land, contract of marriage, or divorce papers), with towns and cities having many more. In the New Testament scripts are often mentioned alongside Sadducees, Pharisees and the High Priests.
